Chicken Town?
Growing middle aged in Saigon, I always wondered why some people referred to Cho Lon as "chicken town". Then someone told me it is not the colloquial for District 5, but a part of District 5 that is notorious.
So it is actually a part of Big Market, China Town, District 5, Cho Lon or whatever attempt I make in Taxi Vietnamese that refers to a part of the the district that has a lot of chicken shops. Not that dissimilar to Nick's Chicken Bar in Greythorn, Melbourne, when I was growing adolescent. I am still not sure if we made it to what the Saigonese call "Chicken Town", one day.. one day..
This photo above is in the assumed "chicken town" neighborhood, a little down the road from the chicken joints, but most definitely Saigon, chickens or not.
The separated close ups below do more justice to it.
Why don't they just include her in the conversation?
